PSLE English Program - Primary 5 / 6
The Primary 5/6 curriculum is a cohesive two-year program designed to provide comprehensive preparation for the PSLE by taking a data-driven approach to helping students improve.
We meticulously track student performance through a combination of term assessments and diagnostic tests, and use this data to pinpoint problem areas and drive targeted improvements through differentiated homework packs that are tailored to address individual weaknesses.

Composition Centric
At Hess Academy, every student learns the 4M approach to composition writing—a structured yet flexible framework that equips them to handle any composition type they may encounter. Rather than advocating for the memorization of model compositions, we focus on developing core writing skills that extend far beyond the PSLE. Through carefully designed tools and guides, we help students formulate their stories with clarity and confidence, overcome the fear of writing, and build the skills needed to tackle any composition type with ease.
Differentiated Homework for Targeted Improvements
Every student receives a tailored homework load, calibrated to bridge the gap between their current performance and their desired grade. Our differentiated homework program ensures that each child a on their most challenging areas, rather than revisiting concepts they have already mastered. Using structured and spaced repetition, we build familiarity and confidence, enabling students to make measurable improvements. Weak areas identified through our termly assessments and diagnostic tests are systematically addressed, ensuring steady progress and grade elevation.
Comprehensive Curriculum
Our curriculum strategically alternates between Composition and Comprehension—the two core pillars of our programme—as these are often the most challenging areas for students and offer the greatest potential for mark improvement. At the same time, no component of the English examination is overlooked. Oral and Listening Comprehension receive dedicated focus, especially in the lead-up to the PSLE, ensuring students are well-prepared and confident across all sections of the exam.
