Primary English Tuition
Early Years
English Program - Primary 1 / 2
At Hess Academy, our Primary 1 and 2 curriculum is carefully crafted around examinable components, given the absence of formal exams at this level.
By introducing students to more complex question styles ahead of time, we aim to build proficiency through a targeted focus on examination-type questions. This proactive approach ensures students are prepared for future examinations rather than engaging in more oblique learning methods.

A Running Start To Primary English

Composition Writing
Every great story features a captivating beginning, a compelling problem, a satisfying resolution, and an insightful conclusion. At Hess Academy, we call this the 4M approach, a core framework our Primary 6 students use to tackle the PSLE. While compositions of that complexity aren’t expected from our Primary 1 and 2 students, our program is carefully designed to scaffold their learning toward that end goal. Beyond basic sentence-writing exercises, we introduce our younger students to the importance of a story arc and the art of crafting a problem that hooks readers, building toward an engaging climax.
Open-Ended Comprehension
Reading and writing skills are fundamental to mastering the English language and arguably the most critical competencies that influence a student’s ability to excel in other subjects. After all, subjects like Science and Math also rely heavily on strong reading comprehension and clear written expression. At Hess Academy, we challenge our students early by exposing them to open-ended comprehension, teaching them not only to understand advanced passages but also to craft grammatically correct sentences that effectively convey their answers. This approach ensures they build a solid foundation for success across their academic journey.

Spelling & Dictation
A strong language foundation begins with the ability to spell accurately and write coherent paragraphs. Our weekly spelling and dictation practices ensure that students maintain a solid grasp of fundamental English skills while expanding their vocabulary. This, in turn, enhances both their reading and writing abilities, laying the groundwork for long-term success.
