Primary English Tuition
Middle Years
English Program - Primary 3 / 4
The Primary 3/4 phase marks a critical period of transition with two major shifts: the introduction of formal exams in Primary 3 and an increase in examinable components and difficulty in Primary 4. Our diagnostic tests help us profile students transitioning from Primary 2 to Primary 3 to assess their exam readiness and identifying specific areas that require additional support, while our in-house term assessments help to quantify your child’s progress throughout the year.

Preemptively Addressing Transitionary Gaps
Primary 3 & 4 English

Elevating Composition Writing Abilities
In Primary 3 and 4, students are expected to write longer and more complex stories. By Primary 4, the style of compositions closely mirrors that of the PSLE, although the required essay length is slightly shorter.
At Hess Academy, our scaffolded writing program ensures students make this transition seamlessly. Rather than expecting them to produce full-length compositions immediately, we guide them through a systematic process—starting with ideation, progressing to paragraph writing and story development, and ultimately bringing all the elements together into cohesive and compelling narratives.
Bridging the Gap to Formal Examinations
In the first two weeks of our Primary 3 program, students are thoroughly introduced to all examinable components they may encounter in their examinations.
Since weighted assessments in schools often test only a subset of these components, it can be challenging to predict what will be covered. Our comprehensive curriculum eliminates this uncertainty by ensuring your child is well-prepared across all areas, providing them with the confidence to excel.

Mastering the Foundations of Middle Years Primary
As your child progresses into Primary 4, we introduce them to PSLE expectations by pitching our curriculum at the more challenging end of the spectrum, preparing them for the rigors of Primary 5 and 6. Our program focuses on developing key skills in comprehension, comprehension cloze, and synthesis through higher-order question exposure, scaffolded practices, and regular feedback. By the end of Primary 4, students have a solid academic foundation and the confidence to meet the demands of upper primary head-on.
An Overview of Our Middle Years Program

Worksheets that Challenge and Excite
Our worksheets offers guidance in creative ways (eg. providing the first alphabet instead of entire words to select), that challenge your child, while not allowing them to "guess the answer". Ask us for a sneak peek into our in-house materials!
Forward Looking Curriculum, that is in line with MOE Syllabus
The mind is a powerful tool that can be stretched. Our curriculum requires students to think critically and move beyond their comfort zones, while keeping in tune with the MOE Primary English syllabus.
